Murphy
- Unmanageable to Under Control
Murphy, a two year old Golden Retriever, came to Liv and Lo Canine full of energy but with no clear direction. While he had a great temperament, his lack of training made everyday life overwhelming for his owners.
Walks quickly turned into being dragged down the street. Murphy had no leash manners, would jump on people, and struggled to listen to even the most basic commands. His high energy had no outlet or structure, which led to constant frustration and problematic behaviors at home and in public.
His owners felt like they had no control, and Murphy did not yet understand how to exist calmly in the world around him.
From the beginning, our goal was to give Murphy clarity, structure, and an outlet for his energy. We introduced foundational obedience including sit, down, place, recall, and proper leash handling, while also teaching him how to stay engaged with his handler.
As Murphy began to understand expectations, everything started to shift. His energy became purposeful instead of chaotic. Rather than working against his owners, he started working with them.
We focused heavily on leash manners and impulse control, helping Murphy learn how to move calmly and respectfully alongside his handler instead of pulling ahead. At the same time, we channeled his drive into obedience, turning his energy into something productive and rewarding.
By the end of his program, Murphy’s transformation was clear in every aspect of his behavior. He is now fully off leash trained, reliable, and responsive. His obedience is not only solid but also flashy, showing confidence, precision, and enthusiasm in his work.
Murphy can now remain calm and composed in all types of environments, from quiet neighborhoods to more stimulating public spaces. What was once chaotic and overwhelming is now controlled, structured, and enjoyable.
Most importantly, his relationship with his owners has completely changed. They now have a dog they can trust, communicate with, and truly enjoy spending time with.
Murphy is proof that when structure meets energy, you do not suppress the dog, you unlock their full potential.
