Odin
- From Out of Control to Purposeful Freedom
Odin living as a high energy Cane Corso, simply had too much arousal and excitement without any clear direction. He loved to move, explore, and chase anything that caught his attention, but had little understanding of boundaries or safety.
He would frequently run off, whether it was after an animal, exploring the neighborhood, or just for fun. His lack of recall and impulse control made it difficult for his owner to trust him in open environments.
On top of that, Odin had a very strong willed personality. If something was not his idea, he would resist, avoid, or completely disengage. When pushed outside of his comfort zone, he would make it known, sometimes escalating to nipping, which made handling him even more challenging.
From the beginning, our focus was building clarity, accountability, and a structured outlet for his energy. Through day training while his owner was at work, we worked consistently to reshape his mindset and teach him how to work with his handler instead of against them.
We introduced foundational and advanced obedience, including recall, tight heeling, place, and impulse control, while also working through his resistance and teaching him how to respond even when he did not initially want to.
For safety and clarity, Odin was also muzzle trained. This allowed us to continue progressing his training in a controlled and responsible way while building trust and understanding.
As his training progressed, Odin began to shift. His engagement improved, his decision making became more thoughtful, and his willingness to work increased. Instead of acting purely on impulse, he started looking for direction.
By the end of his program, Odin had developed into a dog with refined, reliable obedience and a much more balanced mindset. He could be trusted in a variety of environments and no longer relied on avoidance or nipping to communicate discomfort.
Today, Odin is able to enjoy the things he loves with a new level of freedom and safety. From beach outings to road trips to playing fetch with a chuck-it, he is able to fully experience life while staying under control and connected to his handler.
Odin’s story is proof that strong willed dogs are not a problem. They simply need the right structure, guidance, management, and leadership to thrive.
